Members of the European Business Association visited the sorting station of Altvater Kyiv LLC of Veolia Group

Recently, members of the European Business Association (EBA) visited the sorting station of Altvater Kyiv LLC (Veolia Group) as part of a dialogue on the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle. This meeting was an important step towards the development of effective environmental solutions in the field of waste management.

Participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the sorting station, see in practice how the sorting process takes place, and discuss opportunities for cooperation between businesses, packaging manufacturers, and waste management operators.

💡  The background of the initiative
The day before, Veolia presented a joint project with Nestlé on separate collection of packaging waste in Kyiv region. This initiative is aimed at:
✅ Reducing the amount of household waste that goes to landfills.
✅ Raising public awareness of the importance of sorting.

🌱 Why is it important?
The principle of extended producer responsibility stipulates that manufacturers of goods and packaging are responsible for their disposal after use. This contributes to:
Reducing the burden on the environment. The sorting and recycling of waste reduces pollution.
Raising environmental awareness. Educational initiatives create a culture of sorting among consumers.
Creating economic opportunities. The development of recycling infrastructure stimulates business and creates new jobs.

🤝 Prospects for cooperation
During the event, the following opportunities were discussed:
Improving legislation in the field of waste management.
Expanding the scope of separate waste collection projects.
Developing partnerships between business, government and society to achieve common goals.

🏡 For society
Such initiatives are an important step towards a sustainable future. They help to create an effective waste management system that positively affects the environment and the quality of life of every citizen.

The visit of EBA members to Altvater Kyiv LLC was another step towards the implementation of environmental standards in business. The joint efforts of companies operating within the framework of the RWP can change the waste situation in Ukraine, making it more sustainable and responsible.
